Manny Machado Debuts Line of Salsa

The O’s third baseman introduced his product in Pikesville.

His bat may not be so hot right now, but his salsa certainly is.

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado introduced his own line of salsa Tuesday afternoon at the Giant store in Pikesville in front of dozens of Orioles fans.

Machado’s Salsa is exclusively available for a limited time at Giant stores. Machado is a huge fan of salsa and felt this was a perfect fit when his agent approached him with the idea.

“I love salsa,” Machado says. “I have salsa in my refrigerator 24/7. My wife does a great job of keeping it there. Growing up, we used to just munch on it. It’s a good time to sit with the family and eat some salsa.”

For those of you out there who love their salsa hot, the 16-ounce jar comes in only mild or medium. The tomato salsa includes jalapeños and onions. The medium-flavored salsa has an unexpected kick to it, but they both taste just like you’d expect salsa to taste. Machado is not a fan of hot salsa, but he did not rule it out for the future.

Machado also signed autographs and took pictures with fans at the event, which will help his image after he was suspended earlier in the season for intentionally throwing his bat at another player. His suspension appeal hearing is set for Wednesday.

Machado is just one of many Major League Baseball players who have teamed up with PLB Sports to create their own athlete-branded food products. He joins other top MLB players, including Detroit Tigers’ infielder Miguel Cabrera and Cincinatti Reds’ first baseman Joey Votto.
