Construction of New Whole Foods to Get Underway

Whole Foods Market will get a new and improved store in Harbor East.

Despite the fact that our offices at 1000 Lancaster Street have endured the sounds of Harbor East construction for many months, it will be worth it as our not-so-humble ‘hood continues to expand.

It was announced today by the Harbor East Management Group that the latest project in the 21202 zip code will be a new
Whole Foods Market flagship store.

The market will be on 711 S. Central Avenue, the site formerly occupied by Baltimore Contractors.

The new store with be the mother of all markets, with 50,000 square feet, which is nearly double the space of the current Harbor East Whole at Fleet and Exeter Streets.

“Over the years Harbor East has grown into a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood,” said Scott Allshouse, Mid-Atlantic regional president at Whole Foods Market in a release. “We see Baltimore as an incredible area of opportunity and are so pleased to grow along with development and the community as a whole. We look to strengthen our relationships with local suppliers and organizations, and the new flagship location will allow ‘America’s Healthiest Grocery Store’ to offer even more quality ingredients and special amenities, as well as provide a gathering space for the neighborhood. We look forward to remaining an integral part of Harbor East.”

The new store will feature an expanded café with a second-floor mezzanine and will include two outdoor patios overlooking Lancaster Street.

Additionally, the space will be part of mixed-use project that includes retail space and luxury apartments and condos.

Site work is slated to begin later this year.

Just another reason we heart Baltimore.
