Listen to Gangrene’s “Play It Cool” ft. Future Islands’ Sam Herring

The Baltimore band's front man is featured with Earl Sweatshirt on a new hip-hop track.

Gangrene is the side-project supergroup of underground hip-hop legends, The Alchemist and Oh No. Together, they’ve produced for a bounty of big-name talent, including Nas, Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, Mobb Deep, Dilated Peoples, Action Bronson, Schoolboy Q, and De La Soul, to name a few.

The Cali natives have put out two of their own albums in the past, and now they’ve announced a third—The Alchemist and Oh No Present: Welcome to Los Santos (out April 21 via Mass Appeal Records). With it comes the drop of their first single, “Play It Cool,” which features Baltimore’s own Sam Herring of Future Islands, L.A.’s young Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt, a freewheeling flutter of jazz flute, and some NSFW language.

The album is inspired by the
Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack, which the duo helped score, and it will feature a few other notable guests, like TV On the Radio, Little Dragon, and Phantogram.
