Breast Cancer Awareness Month Fundraisers, Specials, and Events

From races to rock shows, we round up the best ways to support the fight.

Though you might already be fluffing your pink tutu and hitting the gym in preparation for the 24th annual Komen Race for the Cure in Hunt Valley later this month, there are plenty of other fun fundraisers planned throughout October to help support the fight against breast cancer. So throw on a ribbon, sip a rosy cocktail, and partake in these pink promotions to help champion the cause.

2016 Pink Ribbon Fit Fest
Oct. 8:
Fitness instructors hailing from all over the region are coming together to teach at this annual group exercise expo. Komen Maryland Race for the Cure
Oct. 23:
Gather a fundraising team and make your way to Hunt Valley for the 24th annual race for the cure. The 5K run steps off at 8 a.m., followed by a family walk, survivor recognition parade, and dance party in race village.11350 McCormick Road, Hunt Valley, 410-938-8990

Making Strides of Baltimore
Oct. 16:
Throw on a pink feather boa and stroll around Waverly for the American Cancer Society’s annual 5K walk, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The festivities will feature an aerobic warm-up, appearances by Mr. Boh and the UMBC dance team, and a raffle for brand-new Mercedes-Benz. DRINK PINK

Crabs for a Cause at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood
Oct. 21:
Now in its fifth year, this event features all of the perks that a good fundraiser should—unlimited beer and wine, an all-inclusive buffet, and, of course, a full-blown crab feast. Women and Wine Wednesday at Birroteca Bel Air
Oct. 19:
Every third Wednesday beginning this month, this pizza and craft beer bar will host an event for ladies looking to spice up their typical mid-week happy hour. At this month’s Women and Wine kickoff, enjoy free appetizers from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and sip $3 glasses of wine until 8 p.m. A portion of all proceeds will benefit Susan G. Nacho Mama’s
Don’t be surprised if the pre-taco tortilla chips—famously served in a Hubcap—look a little different when they arrive at your table this month at Nacho Mama’s. The Elvis-themed taqueria is joining the fight by serving nachos with pink chips and giving away free breast cancer awareness bracelets to all diners who crack open a Natty Boh at the bar.2907 O’ Donnell St., 410-675-0898

Wit & Wisdom: This dining destination inside the Four Seasons Baltimore is doing its part to raise awareness by throwing a special cocktail into the mix this month. Dubbed the “Pink Potion No. 9,” the drink fuses vodka, grapefruit, egg whites, Licor 43, and Peychauds bitters. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. 200 International Drive, 410-576-5800

The Greene Turtle
Not only is this sports bar chain unveiling a new line of pink t-shirts to benefit the Komen foundation this month, but it’s also adding pops of pink to its beverage menu. At all Greene Turtle locations across the region, bartenders will be pouring spiked raspberry teas, strawberry lemonades, grapefruit Crushes, and pink shooters to support the cause. Cake it Up Cakery
While most bakeries fill their showcases with spooky sweets in celebration of Halloween this time of year, this Essex shop is highlighting its new “Pretty in Pink” cupcake collection instead. Stop in this month to get your fix of flavors including pink lemonade, pink champagne, and strawberries and cream. Ten percent of every sale will benefit Susan G. CONCERTS FOR A CURE

Beer, Burgers, and Bras at Waterfront Hotel
Oct 13:
This Fells Point bar and live music venue is hosting a fundraiser featuring a performance by roots rockers The Roadside and aptly-themed food and drink specials like Buttery Nipple shots and “build own original burgers” (BOOBs). Half of the $20 cost of admission, which includes a pink hat and a take-home pint glass, will be donated to The Red Devils, a local organization that raises funds specifically for patients and survivors living in Maryland. BreastFest
Oct. 8:

Rockin’ the Branch to Save Second Base

Local rockers Dave DeMarco Band are set to headline this benefit concert at Mountain Branch Golf Course in Harford County later this month.
