Game of Thrones Creator to Come to Balticon 50

George R. R. Martin will be the guest of honor at Baltimore's sci-fi and fantasy convention.

Calling all fans of the seven kingdoms. This Memorial Day weekend, Baltimore will be welcoming a very special guest at this year’s Balticon Sci-Fi and Fantasy Convention held at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel.

Game of Thrones author and creator, George R. R. Martin. will be in attendance for the regions largest sci-fi convention from May 27-30. While we all patiently await the new GoT season and upcoming book, Martin has a message to fans. “Enjoy the show. Enjoy the books,” he said in The Guardian. “Meanwhile, I’ll keep writing. Chapter at a
time. Page at a time. Word at a time. That’s all I know how to do.”

Martin will also be a part of the Feast of Ice and Fire Dinner event that will be held on Thursday, May 26 in Baltimore. The Westeros-themed dinner has limited seating, but will offer fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to dine with Martin and to ask him their most burning GoT questions, as he will be moving from table to table for each course of the meal. (But, really, what does that wall of heads mean?)

Tickets are donation based, starting at $1,000, but guests will leave with an Ice and Fire Swag Bag complete with an etched goblet and a handmade textile dragon, as well as their life—this is no “red wedding.”

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Balticon will also welcome back guests of honor from past years including John Varley, Jody Lynn Nye, Jo Walton, and more. The schedule has not yet been posted, but the convention will include autograph sessions, art shows, a short film festival, and panel discussions.
