Iggy Pop is Cooler Than You or I Will Ever Be

After I ditched Lil' Wayne I wandered over to the North Stage where Iggy and the Stooges put on an amazing show. Now, I'm not one to gush—go ahead, check my posts—but this show was, hands down, the best I've seen this weekend.

Iggy is 61 and his performance had more energy, chaos, and heart than performances by alleged rock stars half his age. He swore, he spat, he dumped water on his head, he danced (or whatever you want to call it), he went into the crowd on numerous occasions, he encouraged the audience to climb up on stage with him, and for his finale, he smashed his mic stand.

Best of all, he seemed to be doing it as a natural reaction to the music. It wasn't like, "Ok, here's the point in the show when I am going to go into the crowd." It was more like—and I'm just guessing Iggy's thoughts here—#$(&$WI&hs2diuefhiushkajgfu!!!! Crowd!!! Wooooo!!

Unsurprisingly, the crowd loved him and by the end of the set was sad to see him go. And isn't that the point of a concert? You go to see a band live because you want to have some sort of human experience with the music and the people that make it. Otherwise, you can just sit home and listen to the record (ugh, mp3, whatever). Well, Iggy connected. As he said at one point to the crowd: "I see you. I see each and every one of you. I know where I am. I am you."
