What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?
The King James version of The Bible changed my life and forced me to have a personal relationship with a higher being. It especially helped me deal with the passing of my father and brother, Glenn. Me and Glenn were considered rebels coming up in sacred steel, 10 or 15 years ago. Then, my father passed away in February of 2000, and Glenn passed in October. It was hard not having them by my side, but it made me decide to get with other members of the family and put this group together and go out and play for people. The Bible played a big part because I was deep in the situation. It says, "Make a joyful noise, come all ye." That’s how David spread his music to the people all over the land. That joy wasn’t there at the time my father and brother died, but after we took our music to the masses, it came back to me.
