What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?
There are so many songwriters that have inspired me in different ways. Hank Williams has an incredibly simple way of stating things that are universal—as a writer, that's something I am always in pursuit of. It's the power of simplicity. On the other hand, my friend Ed Hamell is a very political songwriter, and I really value friends like him and Dan Bern. They aren't afraid of being political, and they might even use cumbersome language to get there.
