One of my favorite lines from the Young Frankenstein film (see above) didn't make the Broadway version, but the Tony-winning show that opened at the Hippodrome last night is a good time nonetheless. The musical's storyline adheres closely to the Mel Brooks classic, and the songs and choreography add to the madcap fun. The actors are spirited and nuanced—which is increasingly rare on Broadway—and Joanna Glushack (Frau Blucher), Shuler Hensley (the Monster), and Roger Bart (Frederick Frankenstein) are especially memorable. Fans of Desperate Housewives know Bart as George Williams, the pharmacist.
The show runs through January 24th.
