
What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?
Seeing Howlin' Wolf when I was young was a profound experience. We used to go to the market around Maxwell Street on weekends, and they'd have blues musicians playing outdoors. The first time I saw Howlin' Wolf, I was stunned. It made me realize how powerful music could be.
Henry Threadgill is a national treasure. His latest CD, This Brings Us To Volume 1, came out late last year on Pi Records. Threadgill's group, Zooid, plays NYC's Jazz Gallery tonight and tomorrow.
