The premier edition of the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival opens at the Rockville Hilton tomorrow and runs through Saturday night. Focusing on regional talent, it features up-and-coming youngsters and seasoned vets alike. The fest kicks off with a youth orchestra at 7 pm, before the likes of Felicia Carter, Mulgrew Miller, Terrell Stafford, and Lewis Nash hit the stage. With those folks in the house, the midnight jam session (with the Wes Biles Trio) could be something special. Saturday's lineup includes the Jolley Twins (3 pm), Imani (4:30 pm), and a Saxophone Summit featuring Bobby Watson and others. The festival also includes workshops, master classes, and film screenings. You can check out the schedule here.
