Moore Is Wes

Wes Moore grew up in Baltimore City. So did Wes Moore. The first Wes Moore went to Hopkins, became a Rhodes Scholar, worked at the White House and on Wall Street, and The Sun published a piece about him and his accomplishments. The second Wes Moore robbed a jewelry store, killed a police officer, was sentenced to life in prison, and was also profiled in The Sun. When Moore #1 happened to read his namesake's tragic story in the paper, it gave him pause. He realized that, as an African-American male, his life could have easily turned out like the "other Wes Moore." So he wrote to Moore in prison and started a correspondence that developed into an examination of the turning points in both of their lives. And that evolved into a fascinating book, The Other Wes Moore, which comes out tomorrow. It's thought-provoking, haunting, and memorable, and you can expect to see Moore making the media rounds over the next few weeks. He's scheduled for an appearance on Oprah tomorrow, and he returns to Baltimore for a talk at the Pratt on May 18th.
