Beach Reads 1.0

There are lots of great books for beach reading this summer. Here's a suggestion, with more to come...

It seems everyone's reading Stieg Larsson these days and for good reason. I picked up the first book (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in his mega-selling trilogy and tore through it in just a few days. It takes about 100 pages for the Swedish thriller to kick in, but when it does, the pages turn fast and furious. That said, I was disappointed with the resolution of the main plot line, but that happens with about 100 pages to go, and the subplots involving hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist will leave you wanting more.

And then you'll tear through The Girl Who Played with Fire and pick up the new one, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which nicely caps the series. It fills in Salander's back story, which helps explain the antisocial aspects of her personality and deepens her relationship to Blomskvist without cheapening it. And after finishing, you'll have great fun debating with friends who should be cast in the American version of the film.
