Life-Changing Art: Eric Krasno (Soulive)

hendrix axis cover

What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?

I had never heard anything like Jimi Hendrix’s Axis: Bold As Love before. It made me want to play guitar and make records. It brought me to another world that I didn't wanna leave, so I listened over and over. The sounds he made on that record have never been recreated before or after. He turned the studio into an instrument itself, creating a sort of painting with sound using layers of feedback and effected guitars as the paint and textures. To this day, when it comes on I can't pay attention to anything else that's going on.

Eric Krasno and Soulive play Living Classrooms' Maritime Magic Benefit Friday night. On the new CD, Rubber Soulive, the fab three puts a jazz/funk spin on classic Beatles songs. Their version of "In My Life" is transcendent.
