This just in... With an eye towards cutting $100 billion from the federal budget, GOP reps are calling for the elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. That would save $335 million. They'd also cut the Save America's Treasures Program ($25 million) and Heritage Area Grants ($24 million).
That's a huge hit to the national arts and culture community, huge.
It would eliminate the NEA and NEH and still not equal one-half of one percent of the GOP's goal for spending cuts.
Does it show how vastly overfunded these organizations are? Quite the contrary—it shows that arts and culture groups are terribly underfunded at the national level.
