Life-Changing Art: Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak)

What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?

Changed my life? For some reason that phrase makes me feel icky. Things don't change people; people change themselves in response to things!  Furthermore, how people respond to art has little to do with the object itself and almost everything to do with where they are emotionally and personally when it finds them, and how they can relate it to their own experience. So, although I've been affected by many great works of art, musical, and otherwise, no single work of art has "changed my life."

[End tirade.]

With that said, I'm certain I wouldn't be the person I am today without the song "Ass n' Titties" by DJ Assault.

The duo of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack, Wye Oak, play 2640 tomorrow night. Their excellent new CD, Civilian, was just released by the mighty indie label, Merge. If you haven't heard them, you should—you won't feel icky.
