Dan Higgs returns to Baltimore tonight—fronting Skull Defekts, the Swedish experimental rock band—at Floristree, and his old Lungfish bandmate, Asa Osbourne, opens the show. Osbourne’s Zomes project has a new disc out on Thrill Jockey, the Chicago-based label that’s also been releasing all things Higgs. Meanwhile, Felicia Carter and Amy Shook bring their tastefully swinging jazz to the Creative Alliance. Sculptor Keith Wallace Smith gives a slide talk at Baltimore Clayworks at 6:30 and leads free workshops on Saturday and Sunday.
Tomorrow, JHU’s Homewood House hosts a Sisters of Fortune book talk and signing with author Jehanne Wake. Wake’s fascinating book is about Maryland’s Caton sisters and will appeal to anyone with a keen interest in 19th-century history.
Sunday night, TV on the Radio returns to town for a concert at Rams Head. It’s something of a homecoming for TVOTR’s Dave Sitek, who grew up in Columbia, and his buddies, local art-rockers Celebration, open the show.
And legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb returns to Germano’s for shows on Sunday and Monday night. If you missed him last year, don’t make the same mistake twice. The guy’s an incredible writer and storyteller.
