What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?
4'33'' by John Cage. I realized that music begins when you start listening rather than when you start playing. By extent music is everywhere, it is a matter of perception. So is Art, so is happiness.
Swiss pianist Colin Vallon plays An die Musik on May 19th with his trio. Vallon's new ECM disc, Rruga, exudes atmospheric restraint and nuanced melody, even as it nods to Eurasian rhythms and Radiohead. John Cage would be proud, but Bill Evans might be prouder.
