When a group spends a good deal of its creative energy singing about murder, rape, and mayhem, you’d think a thrown bottle wouldn’t faze them. Wrong. Last night’s Odd Future show in Detroit was halted after bottles were hurled at the stage. I don’t condone bottle throwing at shows, but come on—that sort of thing is tame compared to Odd Future’s aggressive lyrics and transgressive behavior.
As noted in a previous post, the shock-rap collective was (as of Sunday) urging its audience “to wild the f**k out, mosh, break shit.” A few thrown bottles wouldn’t seem to bother guys like that, right?
Well, Tyler the Creator later explained, via Tumblr, why they bailed. According to him, they were “Not Going To Wait Until One Cracks Them In The Head Or Shatters And Gets In Their Eyes Or What Ever.”
They were afraid of getting a piece of glass in their eyes.
Odd Future plays Sonar Thursday night.
