What to Do, What to Do?

Movie buffs won’t want to miss this weekend’s Maryland Film Festival. My fellow editor Max Weiss previewed a few of the fest’s films on her blog, and you can check out her reviews here. The Smartish Pace poetry review celebrates the release of its new issue with a reading at Cyclops tonight. It starts at 7 pm and also features music by MacGregor Burns, Sea Couch, and others—all for ten bucks. The BMA stays open this evening for "Photography Late Night," an after-hours event tied to its Seeing Now: Photography Since 1960 show. Starting at 6:30, it includes a photography workshop (by Josh Sisk!), original short films, and live music (DJ and band). There's a cash bar, and admission is free. And power popsters E. Joseph and the Phantom Heart play Rams Head Live.

Tomorrow, AVAM’s always amazing Kinetic Sculpture Race gets started at 10 am. Be sure to check out the museum’s What Makes Us Smile show if you haven’t already see it! Scythian brings the high energy, Celtic rock to Rams Head with Anders Osborne also on the bill, andpianist/composer Roberta Piket—you might have heard her on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz show on NPR—comes to An die Musik for an evening of straight-ahead jazz. And if you’re in Mount Vernon early, check out the Flower Mart and the amazing Treasures of Heaven exhibition at the Walters.

Sunday, you might want to take mom to the Eubie Blake Museum’s “Women in Jazz” fundraiser at 2 pm, or maybe grab dinner at Germano’s Cabaret and hear tenor Elio Scaccio sing selections from his new CD, Lettere d’Amore.
