Life-Changing Art: Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra)

What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?

The melancholy and mystery of Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat" showed me a whole new way I could approach songwriting. I could really tell a story, use dramatic license, take it away from just my own experience. It kind of opened my eyes to the possibilities. Oh, and it's just a heartbreakingly great melody.  "and Jane came by with a lock of your hair..."

Heavenly!
Kevin Griffin and Better Than Ezra have been around for nearly 20 years and epitomize the college radio/alt rock communion that sold lots of records in the mid-1990s. Based in New Orleans, they've persevered through various personnel changes—drummer Travis McNabb left the band to join country superstars Sugarland two years ago—and have a new CD for release later this year. Tomorrow, they play Power Plant Live! at 7:30. It's all "Good."
