What to Do? What to Do?

One of the most hotly anticipated shows of the summer comes to Merriweather tomorrow, as Animal Collective plays something of a homecoming concert. It should be a gorgeous night to stretch out on the lawn and listen to a bunch of (mostly new) A.C. tunes. Jazz fans should check out Lafayette Gilchrist and the New Volcanoes with guitarist Carl Filipiak at Windup Space. It's another excellent show brought to you by Bernard Lyons. At 7 pm, the winner of the Sondheim Award gets announced at the BMA, and Matt Porterfield, director of the film Putty Hill, is among this year's nominees.

The Carroll County Farm Museum hosts the Common Ground on the Hill Festival this weekend, and Buckwheat Zydeco, sacred steel guitarist Calvin Cooke, Lea Gilmore, and bluesman Guy Davis are all playing on Saturday. Sunday, don't miss Sankofa Dance Theater at Common Ground.

Sunday, the We Are Arabbers documentary screens at the Reginald Lewis Museum, where you can also check out the excellent Material Girls exhibit featuring fantastic work by the likes of Joyce Scott and Maren Hassinger.
