Experimental filmmaker and Baltimore expat Catherine Pancake screens new work at the the Creative Alliance tonight! Tomorrow morning (11 am), Joyce Scott hosts a bead workshop at the Reginald Lewis Museum—it's a rare opportunity for us regular folks to learn from a master. And while you're there, don't forget to check out Scott's work in the amazing Material Girls show. In the evening, the Violet Hour celebrate the vinyl release of their debut disc at Metro Gallery, the Dave Stryker Organ Quintet plays the BMA (note: this concert has been moved inside because of the heat), and Normal's—this city's best book/record store—celebrates its 21st anniversary at Golden West with a blow-out show featuring Thank You, Asa Osborne, Madagascar, Liz Downing, and other local luminaries. Sunday, Joseph Bowie makes a rare local appearance, with drummer Adam Rudolph, at Windup Space. And it's Alex Ball's birthday. Happy birthday, Alex!
