During Artscape, local graffiti legend Frank ("Shaken") Arthur painted a massive piece (8' high, 24' long) outside Utrecht Art Supply on Chase Street. Executed on three 8'x8' canvas panels, it radiated the same energy and style that's long infused Arthur's work, which has, over the past 20 years, been illegally emblazoned on walls across the city.
These days, Arthur's trying to go straight and transition to more traditional outlets, and you can read all about that in our August issue. In more ways than one, he's a colorful guy, and I've gotten tons of positive feedback on his story.
Arthur plans to auction the Utrecht piece and donate a portion of the proceeds to the non-profit Children of Addicted Parents. Store Manager Jim Koerner tells me the shop will host an auction event in mid-to-late August, and the painting will go on display at the shop after Arthur completes some touch-ups. Stay tuned for more details.
