With David Simon about to receive the “Free Mind Award” at tomorrow’s Frank Zappa festival in Highlandtown, I asked him what Zappa’s work has meant to him. “The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe,” Simon wrote back, adding, “Absolutely right. There is no arguing with Mr. Zappa on this.”
Non-fans might be left scratching their heads, but Zappa fans should be thrilled that the Wire/Treme creator can quote from “Stinkfoot,” which was, coincidentally, the first song Dweezil Zappa played at the Zappa festivities last year.
