There's a ton of great music on tap this weekend, starting tonight with Technicolor Motor Home—Baltimore's "Best Tribute Band"!—and its fantastic Steely Dan show at The Recher. Tomorrow, Hilary Hahn comes home to headline the BSO gala, acclaimed jazz pianist Fred Hersch plays two shows at An die Musik, and Merriweather Post Pavilion hosts the Virgin Mobile Freefest, featuring TV On the Radio, the Black Keys, Cee Lo Green, Patti Smith, Deadmau5, and many others. Saturday is also "Mencken Day" at the Pratt, with columnist Michael Dirda giving the Mencken Memorial Lecture at 2:30 pm.
But I'm most excited about tonight's show at the Patterson. Called "Pass It Down," it features sets by local musicians and their children and includes Chris Mason, Michael Raitzyk and Judith Geller, Don Peyton, and my wife, Anne Watts, who'll be performing with our daughter, Posie. You might have heard Anne and Posie on WYPR's The Signal last Friday. It figures to be lots of family-friendly fun, and the show starts at 7:30 pm.
