Even in the rain, the Baltimore Book Festival makes an excellent outing. Case in point... last nigt, I ducked into the Children's Bookstore tent with my 13-year-old daughter, and we caught a very witty talk by author Libba Bray, who spent 45 minutes signing books after her appearance. Very cool. The panel discussion that followed—featuring five young adult novelists—rated highly, as well. Saturday, Sherman Alexie (at 2 pm) is a must.
And the High Zero Festival continues at Theatre Project. For fans of adventurous and improvised music, it's an absolutely essential event.
Saturday, jazz fans won't want to miss Carl Grubbs at An die Musik for a John Coltrane birthday celebration—the sax great would have turned 85 on the 23rd—featuring bassist Reggie Workman.
Film fans should check out the Chesapeake Film Festival, with screenings in Easton, Cambridge, and Chestertwon on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday, master guitarist Frank Vignola plays the Cabaret at Germano's.
