Double Dagger, Baltimore's most beloved punk band, plays its last show at the Ottobar tonight. Double Dagger epitomized the best of the city's music scene, by flexing its DIY muscle and playing music as smart as it was powerful. They will be missed.
Another DIY music icon, Ani DiFranco, plays Ramshead Live tomorrow night.
Studio 33's Annual Open Studio Tour happens Saturday and Sunday, at artist studios throughout the city. It's a great way to meet artists and see the wide variety of art being made around town. It's also an excellent way to buy art—right at the source, visiting artists in the spaces where they work—and get in touch with your inner Etta and Claribel. Rain, the Beatles tribute, is at the Hippodrome tonight and tomorrow, while Jackson Browne and Lewis Black appear at the Lyric Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Sunday, Art On Purpose's Black Male Identity Project has an intriguing event happening at New Beginnings Barbershop, which was included in our "must-see art" feature in October (it was cited by MICA's Leslie King-Hammond). Billed as a "barbershop conversation," it will explore the evolution of art and black male identities, from the Harlem Renaissance to today. The conversation starts at 3 pm.
And O's legend Brooks Robinson will be honored tomorrow at noon, when his statue is unveiled at Camden Yards. Now, why did it take so long for the organization to honor Brooks with a statue? Better late than never, I guess.
