Maryland Art Place holds its 30th anniversary gala tonight, an event that will also honor a dozen women who have made a major impact on the local arts scene—folks like Marin Alsop, Ethel Ennis, Doreen Bolger, Leslie King-Hammond, and Joyce Scott. Bluesman Joe Bonamassa plays the Hippodrome, a highly-recommended production of David Mamet's American Buffalo continues at Centerstage, and three exhibitions open at School 33: Dead Reckoning (paintings by Paul Jeanes), Let There Be Light (light sculptures by Shahrzad Taavoni), and Gulp Yarn Bang! (showcasing the work of 11 artists who use yarn in their work). The Black Male Identity Project's Speak My Name exhibit, featuring works inspired by Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man, continues this weekend at Morgan's James Lewis Museum of Art.
