What to Do? What to Do?

Progressive music fans should take note that today's Cuneifest "Rock Day" at Orion Studios is sold out, and tomorrow's "Jazz Day" has been moved from An die Musik—the venue is apparently still having electrical troubles—to Metro Gallery. Because Metro Gallery is a larger venue, there are now some tickets available for Sundays show, which includes Jason Adasiewicz's Rolldown, The Claudia Quintet + 1 (featuring Theo Bleckmann), and Carlo De Rosa's Cross-Fade.

Tonight, Hampden's Spur Gallery opens a new show of illustrations by Melinda Beck and Jordan Isip. The opening reception lasts from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and you can purchase limited edition prints by both artists.

This year's final installment in the 510 Reading Series at Minas features Stephanie Barber, Mike Young, Joshua Mohr, and Ben Loory. The words start flying at 5 pm.

Tomorrow afternoon at 5 pm, Chamber Jazz presents the Eric Alexander/Vince Herring Quintet featuring Harold Mabern at the BMA. It figures to be one of the best jazz shows of the year.

And Centerstage's excellent production of American Buffalo continues this weekend. It's intimate, witty, and intense—a reminder that great theater is built on great writing (see David Mamet). A friend of mine ranks it up there with the classic Broadway production starring Robert Duvall.
