2011 in Review: Graffiti Legend Returns

frank arthur

Local graffiti legend Frank Arthur reemerged in 2011 after years battling the police, drug addiction, and a few other personal demons. According to his drug counselor, he's been straight for nearly two years. According to his friends, he seems more motivated than ever. He turned up in two coffee table books (including Harper's The History of American Graffiti), attended the opening of the groundbreaking Art in the Streets exhibition in L.A. (where he signed books in the museum store for three hours), painted some legal walls in Southwest Baltimore, and produced a few eye-popping pieces on canvas, pieces that brought Lichtenstein to mind. Arthur says he's working on a series of Warhol-inspired, Natty Boh paintings for 2012.
