What to Do? What to Do?

record store day banner

Saturday is Record Store Day, which provides an excellent opportunity for patronizing local establishments that still sell vinyl. Among my faves are Normal's in Waverly, Trax on Wax in Catonsville, Dimensions in Sound on Saratoga Street, True Vine in Hampden, Record & Tape Traders in Towson, and El Suprimo and Sound Garden in Fells Point. Some of these shops will be stocking exclusive Record Store Day releases, so you might be able to nab a copy of that limited edition Flaming Lips album or that nifty Luther Dickinson 78. Good luck.

Tonight, Faust opens at the Lyric, Arty Hill and Mike Barth (of the Polkats) will put a tear in your beer at the Creative Alliance's Marquee Lounge, Telesma gets all freaky at Rams Head Live, and Jazz Update plays a tribute to Duke Ellington at Germano's.

Tomorrow, guitarist John Scofield plays the Hopkins Club, Charm City Devils rock out at the Recher, photographer Alexey Titarenko gives an artist talk at Grimaldis, and School 33 holds its annual Lotta Art Benefit at Silo Point.

Legendary low-riders War play the Rams Head in Annapolis on Sunday. That day, the JCC holds an artist reception for Uzi Silber, and the Walters screens the documentary Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World. And Devin Gray plays a CD release show with an all-star band—featuring saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, trumpeter Dave Ballou, and bassist Mike Formanek!—at the Windup Space.

And if you haven't checked out The Whipping Man at Centerstage, get over there and see it!
