Poetic Injustice?

Johns Hopkins University recently announced it was eliminating the poetry concentration from its AAP Writing Program. As we've seen at the University of Virginia, college administrators are looking to cut costs even if it means axing beloved programs and people. We've also seen that public outcry can lead those same administrators to reassess such decisions. With that in mind, students launched a petition drive to have the program and its popular advisor, Ed Perlman, reinstated. You can read and sign the petition here. 

"It is a sad day when we need to convince an esteemed institution of higher education that poetry matters," read one comment. "'Save the poets' should not have to be a writing program's mantra in 2012."
