Tonight, Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys play Merriweather, and there's a reception for the Honoring 1812 exhibition at the Crystal Moll Gallery in Federal Hill from 5 to 8 pm. At the gallery reception, authors Ralph Eshelman and Burton Kummerow will on hand to sign copies of their book, In Full Glory Reflected: Discovering the War of 1812 in the Chesapeake.
Baltimore's "Best Arts Showcase" (see last year's Best Of issue), Maryland Traditions' Folklife Festival, takes place tomorrow in and around Highlandtown's Patterson Theater. It's free, lots of fun, and features a stunning array of traditional performers and artists from around the state. You can check out salsa, traditional Irish, bluegrass, gospel, doo-wop, Cambodian, Chinese, and Mariachi music, along with traditional crafts, food demonstrations, and dance. The fest runs from 11 am to 7 pm.
Also tomorrow, an exhibit of photographs of Lucille Clifton and other poets opens at the Reginald Lewis Museum. and the Baltimore Pride Parade begins at 3:30 in Mount Vernon. The Pride Festival takes place in Druid Hill Park this Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.
Sunday, two classy music legends, Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples, are at Pier Six, and up-and-coming rockers Everest (who'll be opening for Neil Young and Crazy Horse this fall) play Prince George's County Stadium after the Bowie Baysox game.
Also Sunday, the BSO will perform the world premiere of Philip Glass' Overture for 2012 at the Meyerhoff at 7 pm.
