What piece of art changed your life? How did it affect you?
Listening to the John Hammond record Country Blues had a huge impact on my life, music, and career. I was listening to a lot of folk rock and especially a lot of Beatles and Dylan at the time. I went to a cool record store in Philly called Third Street Jazz and Rock. I was searching for a solo acoustic performer other than Dylan and Neil Young that played harmonica and guitar at the same time. They turned me on to Hammond. From the first few riffs of John's take of "Statesborough Blues," I knew I had finally found the sound I was searching for. It was a huge epiphany for me, and I've studied that record time and time again to hone my guitar, harmonica, singing, and performance skills.
G. Love headlines Saturday's Silopanna Music Festival at Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds with Robert Randolph, Cake, and Citizen Cope. Music starts at 11 am, and G. Love goes on at 4:15 pm. Coast to Coast Motel, produced by the legendary Jim Dickinson, is still my favorite G. Love record.
