One of the summer's best fests, Hot August Blues (now in its 20th year!) takes place today at Oregon Ridge Park. Gov't Mule, featuring Allman Brother Warren Haynes, headlines and goes on at 8 pm,, and you can expect one helluva set from New Orleans' finest Trombone Shorty at 5:30 pm. The lineup also includes Justin Townes Earle, Magic Slim, Cris Jacobs (formerly of The Bridge), and JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, retro-soul faves with a pro-Baltimore anthem ("Baltimore Is the New Brooklyn"). Tickets are available at the gate.
Tonight, My Morning Jacket plays Merriweather Post Pavilion, with Band of Horses opening. And Charisma Wooten plays "An Evening of Eclectic Songs" (show tunes, spirituals, gospel, folk, jazz, classical...) at the Germano's Cabaret.
Saxophonist Craig Alston plays two shows (4 & 6 pm) at An die Musik tomorrow, with an impressive group that includes guitarist Michael Raitzyk, drummer Eric Kennedy, and singer Marianne Matheny-Katz.
