There’s lots of great theater this weekend. Heroes opens at Everyman, and it will be last production at the theater’s Charles Street location before its January move to more spacious digs on the Westside; Poe, starring Everyman regular and local favorite Bruce Nelson, continues at Center Stage; and Wicked, easily one of the best musicals of the past decade, lights up the Hippodrome.
At Goucher, Alvin Eng directs a student production of Steven Fechter’s The Woodsman, a provocative drama about a convicted sex offender adapting to life after prison. This evening’s performance begins at 8 pm and includes a post-performance Q&A with Fechter. Tickets are $10. Curtain time on Sunday is 7 pm.
Tomorrow, The Bridge reunite for a show benefiting the Believe in Music Foundation at the Science Center. And Blake Meister opens this season’s Jazz at the Hopkins Club series. It’s a CD release show, and Meister’s band features guitarist Paul Bellenback, drummer Nasheet Watts, and saxophonist Gary Thomas, who curates the series. Shows begin at 8:30 pm and 10 pm.
Sunday, soul legend Bettye LaVette plays Rams Head in Annapolis and the Elina Duni Quartet brings its mix of trad Balkan folk and modern jazz to An die Musik.
Poetry fans won’t want to miss Billy Collins and Mary Oliver at Strathmore Sunday afternoon.
