The results of the 2012 Rhapsody Jazz Critics' Poll were announced today, and Devin Gray's debut disc, Dirigo Rataplan, came in at #3 in the "Best Debut Album" category. A drummer and Peabody graduate, Gray studied with Gary Thomas and Michael Formanek in the conservatory's jazz department. Formanek appears on the album along with trumpeter Dave Ballou and saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, who also have strong local ties. Gray returns to Baltimore on March 26th, when he'll perform with the Out of Your Head Collective at Windup Space.
