October 17th, 2008br>Kini Collins Art Sale Saturdaybr>By John Lewis |
Local artist Kini Collins is taking her work directly to the public. And in this economy, you can't argue with her rationale, or beat her prices. Here's what she's doing...
I decided to take control of my sales and sell my work from my studio. And I decided that I would sell the work for cost. To create the sales price, I take an average of the actual cost of my largest and smallest pieces but do not include the time I spend making the work in the price. I am not doing this to devalue my work, but rather to say that my physical time and mental/emotional life is more valuable to me than trying to sell work at normal market prices. The time and energy I spent maintaining contacts with galleries is time I would rather spend making work.
So I'll be having my second studio sale on Saturday October 18 from noon - 5pm.
All work, regardless of size, will be $30 per piece. This is an average cost of my smallest and largest pieces.
I have about 70 pieces -- prints, paintings and new mixed media work using wax. The work represents several of my favorite subjects -- birds, bowls, spines, weeds and landscapes -- ranging in size from 5"x7" box tops to 50"x30" unstretched canvases.
The last time I did this, I sold most of the work in the first hour of the sale and I asked that folks buy only 2 pieces. This time there will be no limit on the number of pieces you can buy.
My studio is at 1450 E. Baltimore Street, near the corner of E. Baltimore and N. Caroline Street. Ring the top right buzzer for unit 3B.
I look forward to seeing you.
Kini Collins
