The Next Big

Hot ticket.

It won't have Johnny Depp, Ricki Lake, Iggy Pop, or Traci Lords, but the musical version of John Waters's 1990 film Cry-Baby will have plenty of cool-kid drapes and uptight squares (plus new songs). Cry-Baby, the second Waters film to be translated to the Broadway stage, begins previews on March 15 at NYC's Marquis Theatre. Most tickets will cost $54, in an homage to the year the story takes place (1954). The last Waters pic to go to Broadway, Hairspray, has done pretty well: it's been running since 2002.
