For the first time since the Civil War, Matthew Brady's famous 1862 photographic exhibition The Dead of Antietam will be exhibited to the public. In addition to the brutal battle images shot by one of Brady's photographers, Alexander Gardner, the exhibit will feature interpretive displays exploring how American society portrayed death at the start of the Civil War, how these photos were received when they were initially displayed in Matthew Brady's New York City gallery in October 1862, and how war coveragae has evolved since then.
