Can Stevie Nicks Save the Poe House?

As has been widely reported, the Poe House in danger of closing due to insufficient funding. I think we all can agree that this would be a shame.

In our July issue (on newsstands soon!), writer Nikki Gamer lays out several thoughtful and clever ways the Poe House could go about securing sustainable income. I'd like to propose an additional one here.

Legendary Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks recently released a solo album containing a song with lyrics adapted from the Edgar Allan Poe song "Annabel Lee." The song—appropriately titled "Annabel Lee"—was written by Nicks while she was a teenager after she read the poem in a high school English class.

Nicks is well within her rights to appropriate the poem for her own creative purposes as the copyright on Poe's works has expired leaving them in the public domain. Still, I can't help but think that maybe, if we asked really, really nicely, she might take pity on an organization that wants to sustain the legacy of an artist she so admires. As it so happens, Nicks (well, her assistant, at least) is on Twitter. Baltimore, meet Stevie. Stevie, meet Baltimore.
