But the First Amendment lawsuit continues. Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick is now allowed to sell its Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA in Michigan after that state's liquor board commission this week reversed its original decision to ban the brew because of its name.
The Michigan commission previously ruled that the "Raging Bitch" name and its label, pictured, "endangered public safety and was harmful to any adult who might read the beer's name on a restaurant menu," according to Flying Dog's website blog. (Horrors!)
Eater.com first reported the reversal of the ban yesterday. Gazette.net covered the lawsuit in a March 31 story.
Flying Dog has no plans to drop its First Amendment lawsuit, however, the brewery's blog said. The suit was filed against the Michigan commission not only to overturn the ban but "also to deem their ability to ban any beer label that they find offensive unconstitutional."
Raging Bitch's label is by renowned artist Ralph Steadman, who collaborated with Gonzo journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson on several books.
Starting tomorrow, Flying Dog Brewery will be offering tours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at its Frederick brewery.
