Omar Comin' to TED Talk in DC

Wire cast members Sonja Sohn (Kima Greggs), Michael K. Williams (Omar), Jamie Hector (Marlo Stanfield), and Gbenga Akinnagbe (Chris Partlow) will appear tomorrow at TEDxMidAtlantic in D.C. Along with Donnie Andrews, the real-life Omar, the group will be interviewed by PBS’ Judy Woodruff for what figures to be the first in a series of conversations with Wire cast members about the ongoing economic crisis.

Sohn, who founded the nonprofit ReWired for Change in 2009, said in a press release, “We intend to explore values that revolve around the need for Americans to collectively embrace our humanity, so we as a people become anchored by the principles of human decency as opposed to the polarizing models we are now paralyzed by.” Sohn also noted how that polarization “has caused our nation to split into warring factions based on personal preferences and individual life choices.”

“Today is the beginning of a series of Wire conversations to raise awareness in low income, working and middle class communities across the country,” added Williams. “Now is the time to be the change we seek.  But how do we begin to do that? For the members of The Wire conversation, today is just the beginning of how we figure that out—together.”

The event is sold out, but you can watch a live stream here, starting at 8:45 a.m. Note: there are more than a dozen other speakers, including comedian Reggie Watts, on the bill.
