Terrell Suggs Goes on ESPN to Demand Respect for Ravens, Flacco

I don't know about you, but I spend a good chunk of my Monday mornings listening to Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio, waiting for the premier national sports radio duo to heap praise on the Ravens. Inevitably, I'm disappointed. (Unless they manage to always squeeze it in during the five minutes I'm in the shower, but the odds of them doing that this many weeks in a row is becoming increasingly long.)

Mike and Mike tend to prattle on about their favored teams, like the Philadelphia Eagles (where Mike Golic played), the New York Jets (Mike Greenberg's favored team), along with favored teams like the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers and (inexplicably) The Dallas Cowboys. Other national sports outlets tend to overlook the Ravens as well. Baltimore's in a relatively small market and, though we're winning games, there's no good story lines, especially since we're primarily a defense-driven team.

But there comes a time each season when the Ravens have accomplished enough that people have to start paying attention. That moment seemed to arrive this morning, when Skip Bayless hosted star Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs in the studio for his show, First Take. T-Sizzle, God bless him, knocked it out of the park. "We look forward to seeing y'all in February," he responded when asked who he thought would win the AFC North, the Ravens' conference.

One highlight of the interview came when Suggs vehemently defended quarterback Joe Flacco. "I'm 100 percent sold on Cool Joe," he said, looking into the camera, before correcting his flub of Flacco's nickname. "He's always been Joe Cool—he's never ever lost his composure."

As The Sun reported, Suggs and Pittsburgh receiver Hines Ward briefly appeared on the show together, but didn't really get into it the way Bayless did. "We’ve got a fight coming in November," Suggs told Ward, referring to the Steelers-Ravens showdown in week 9. "We’ll see you in November, big dog," Ward replied.

During the interview with Bayless, Suggs also heaped some trash on second-year Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who will start this week in Miami. "My beard has been through tougher things than Tim Tebow." Ouch.
