Adam Meister (left) certainly has lived up to his title as Best Rabble Rouser lately, particularly in his confrontation with Frank Conaway Sr., city court clerk, patriarch of the local political dynasty, and father to Belinda Conaway, whom Meister helped defeat in her bid for re-election to the Baltimore City Council (after she sued him—it's a long story).
Anyway, Meister is back to blogging and his two most recent posts demonstrate what an asset he is to Baltimore City. A commenter on a previous post (where Meister narrated a video of his walk up Eutaw St.) issued the following challenge: “I challenge Mr. Meister to videotape a walk eastward on North Avenue, from Gay Street to Hilton Street. Let’s see if he even survives the trip, much less is able to find anything positive to crow about.”
Meister doesn't seem the type to back off a challenge and he didn't. In the first of two posts, he walked/jogged the length of North Avenue, and, for good measure, added a second post in which he walked/jogged down Gay Street to Baltimore Street, then up Greenmount Avenue to 29th Street. Meister offers fantastic narration throughout, exploring parts of Baltimore that are rarely discussed in the public sphere, touching on his own family's history, some beautiful architecture, some really tragic abandoned blocks, and much more—including a run-in with some guys near the Oldtown Mall who threatened to steal to his camera. Baltimore needs more energetic, committed people like Adam.
In a totally different vein, blogger Steve Earley posted a hysterical recreation of Mr. B'oh and Sally Utz's courtship via Facebook, complete with appearances by Barry Glazer, Ed Hale, Kegasus, and the Oriole Bird. It's a treat that only folks who really know Baltimore will appreciate. Enjoy!
