Looks like the dream may just become a reality. According to The Daily Record, owners of Canton Crossing are about to announce the opening of Target and Harris Teeter. A city development source says that the two chains are ready to seal leasing deals with Chesapeake Real Estate Group and BCP Investors LLC, princiapls of the ownership team of the waterfront site near the First Mariner Tower on Boston Street.
If all goes according to plan, Harris Teeter and Target would open by 2013 (the Harris Teeter in Locust Point is set to open December 7).
The opening of these two stores would mean a lot for downtown residents. No more driving to Mondawmin, White Marsh, or Towson for the versatile one-stop-shop that is Target. And a Harris Teeter in Canton would create some competition for the nearby Safeway, hopefully causing a drop in its inflated prices.
So, keep your fingers crossed that all future planning hearings go well!
