Cloudy with a chance of crabs

Blue Angels, Shmue Angels! Some eagle eye noticed the real air show at The Star Spangled Sailabration two weekends ago: This suspiciously crab-like (and adorable!) cloud hovering over Baltimore. Then the Washington Post picked up the story. Can the "crab cloud" be Baltimore's official mascot? Get on it, Visit Baltimore!

Help Camden Yards win!

In what would be the biggest upset in sports history ever (slight exaggeration), Miller Park is currently beating Camden Yards in ESPN's "Battle of the Ballparks."

The no. 24 seeded Milwaukee stadium has already knocked off Dodgers Stadium and PNC Park. I'm not sure what those crazy Brewers fans are up to, but don't let Camden Yards lose to a stadium with a freakin' dome! Vote now!

Robbie's 1st Base—the Lutherville sports memorabilia shop featured in the reality show Ball Boys—moves to prime time next month. According to ABC, the show will begin airing at 9 pm on Saturdays, starting July 7th. The show will also air on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, as well.

But the prime time exposure figures to be short lived—come September, Saturday Night Football will occupy that prized slot.

It's Gonna Be A Scorcher

All of our local weather forecasters are in general agreement that the remaining week is going to be pretty hot, but ABC seems to have broken away from the pack predicting a punishing 775 degrees!

Drink plenty of water, and be sure to wear flame resistant clothing!

Lutherville Reality Show Wraps Up First Season

Did you know that the latest reality show to plunder the hidden-treasure theme is filmed right here in Baltimore? ABC’s Ball Boys, which revolves around the Lutherville sports memorabilia shop Robbie’s First Base, airs its season finale this Sunday on ABC. Check out the trailer below

Ball Boys is somewhat in the vein of Storage Wars, American Pickers, and Pawn Stars, with the twist of only dealing with sports-related objects. The series follows father and son owners Robbie Davis Sr. and Jr. along with their colorful staff as they wheel and deal with stragglers off the street, looking to cash in on all manner of memorabilia ranging from the awe inspiring (Jackie Robinson’s bat!), to the downright perplexing (an ancient mason jar full of decaying grass from Cleveland Municipal Stadium).

Besides the white-knuckled appraising, bargaining, and hustling, there’s also the usual loafing around and incidental banter that distinguishes these shows from, say, PBS’s Antique Road Show. As one of the worker’s remarks in the Ball Boys...

To Own or Not to Own

Anyone looking for some wonky fun tonight? Well we have just the thing for you.

Tonight at Hampden’s Atomic Books, business journalist and author Jane Hodges will discuss her latest book, Rent Versus Own: A Real Estate Reality Check for Navigating Booms, Busts, and Bad Advice. Published by Chronicle Books, Hodges findings are pertinent to anyone considering whether or not to take the plunge into a home owning mortgage.  By way of anecdote and statistical evidence, she negotiates the flood of variables required to determine when buying makes sense—and when it doesn’t. Her stories have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Seattle Times, MSNBC.com, Reuters, Real Estate Forum, AOL Housing Watch, and countless other publications and news sites.

In 2010, the Census Bureau reported some pretty grim statistics regarding home ownership in Baltimore.  We were among 25 large cities (including Minneapolis...

Under Armour + Tom Brady = Wicked Funny

Here's a new Funny or Die Under Armour video featuring Tom Brady. Okay, we chuckled. But we do feel compelled to point out a few things:

1. Joe Flacco shows some excellent acting chops in those Mother's Grille ads. Just sayin'.

2. Why does Gisele insist on giving Tom the latest in Bieber 'dos?

That being said, enjoy.

Report: O's close to six-year deal with Adam Jones

It's no secret that the O's have been playing satisfyingly well thus far this season. What wasn't clear, however, was what would happen with the team's star player, Adam Jones, once the 26-year-old centerfielder became a free agent after this season.

Earlier today, reports surfaced online that the O's are close to signing Jones to a six-year deal said to be worth more than $72 million. If the rumors are true, that would make his deal the most expensive in the team's history.

So far this season, he has been the match igniting the O's offense, batting .311, with 14 home runs and 29 RBIs. Obviously, the team and the fans would be sorry to see him wearing another jersey this time next year.

After conducting a highly unscientific sweep of Twitter and Tumblr, it seems like O's fans are happy to see Jones get paid as long as he keeps connecting at the plate and driving the team...
