The Maryland Live! Casino says it's “looking for a few good dealers.” To be exact: 800.
Supporters of Question 7, the state’s expanded gambling measure, promised jobs. Well, a week after the referendum’s passage, here are some of the first: Maryland Live! Casino announced Wednesday that with the addition of 150 now-legal tables games — blackjack, poker, roulette, and the like — they’re launching a free school for would-be dealers.
At a press event today, David Cordish (pictured above in a red tie), owner of the Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills, and Robert Norton (pictured above in a red shirt), general manager of the facility, said they’ll start their dealer school this January in association with Anne Arundel Community College.
Overall, Maryland Live! says they will add 1,200 new jobs with the introduction of table games and 24-hour gambling. Approximately 800 of those jobs are for table game dealers, according to a press release, which notes that completion of the dealer training course does not guarantee employment.
“We have the opportunity to provide long-term careers in the gaming industry to personable, outgoing and professional individuals,” said Norton in a statment. “Interested Dealer School applicants do not need casino, gaming or dealer experience to apply to the school. Working in association with Anne Arundel Community College, we will provide all the training necessary to successfully complete the courses and position graduates to take advantage of the opportunity to interview for a dealer position at Maryland Live!”
Applications for the 12-week school are being accepted now through the end of December.
