In the spirit of the (shopping) season and supporting local businesses, Baltimore County today announced a five-day parking meter holiday, beginning Dec. 20 and running through Dec. 25.

Shopppers will receive two free hours of parking at 1,735 meters decorated with red "free parking" bags, according to the Baltimore County government website, in Catonsville, Towson, Parkville, Essex, Overlea, Pikesville, Arbutus, Dundalk and Stoneleigh.

"This time of the year it is especially important to support the owners of Baltimore County's local shops and restaurants," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz in a statement. "We're doing our part with a parking meter holiday so shoppers can help keep the neighborhood economy going strong."
